Teddy's gloves
30th-Mar-2013 04:50 pm
I took photos of the matching gloves to teddy's Exchange Bingo prize cloak.

Everything is in the wash on abuse cycle.  What's interesting is these don't seem as stretchy as the fabric.

All the piece parts for making gloves.

Thumb is attached.

WOW!!!! These are gorgeous! I am so excited!! They look awesome - I love them!!!

I'm trying desperately to finish this train wreck of a costume of mine - it's two parts strange and one part goofy. I'll probably look like an idiot in it, but at least it will be in character.

I'm seriously over the moon with these gloves. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Well if you make a mistake on the costume, know that cloaks hide lots of sins....LOL

Re bingo mods- I want to think of myself as a decent enough fangurl that the mods dont get invovled. LOL.

Oddly, one of my very first sewing projects ever was self patterning and making gloves. (Snape's dragon hyde gloves in uphostry vynil) They were a bitch to get right, but I learned alot. Even with a butterick pattern, which didnt exist when I first made gloves, runs SMALL even though the sizing is up to a 9. My hands are almost a 10 in gloves. Mens gloves don't cut it either. If I made these gloves form me, I would have made the thumb hole larger, and extended the fingers by at least a quarter inch and I would have cut the "flanges" a bit longer and thicker as well.

I made those on my vintage early 8s kenmore portable. The kenmore is a versitile little machince. For power I use the uber vintage singer 401. =)

I just made them to pattern. Not so much making them smaller. If anything I made the sleeve and the palm area larger than for me. It is the thumb and the fingers that I did not expand. I just hope they fit teddy, that is a crap shoot on my part.

Adding.... Gloves are a great way to learn fitting and sewing without alot of fabric investment. Making gloves is less than a day project if you make them from stash and dont have to hunt down the material, etc.. I hate waste. I had enough fabric to do the gloves.

Very nice! Although I can swear that MzDroxy told me to stay away from stretchy velvet. ;)

Those are some bright blue gloves! It makes me want to see the whole costume. Perhaps there will be picspam from Misti-Con.

I have to load up the cloak. Velvet seems to photo funny. This is why I wore two levels of pink as a control.

TY! Only Teddy would appreciate stripper gloves. =)

Oooh, and the gloves are LINED! Very impressive.
31st-Mar-2013 04:19 am (UTC)
Gloves are not lined! LOL- I doubt they would fit me or teddy if I did, as these are snug on me. The cloak hood is lined because it is exposed and I thought the contrast would look good. Full circle cloaks are rarely lined due to the weight. This fabric really doesn't need lining, it is very smooth.

(looks closer at pieces....) d'oh! that's top and reverse sides of two gloves, not 2 gloves and 2 linings... (slinks....)

right! That's the top sice and underside of the gloves- the right and left hand!

Nice gloves! I can knit them, never tried sewing, though.

However, Unimpressed Cat is ... Unimpressed.

Hee, the cat was going to the photographer. Yes, he's not impressed.
