Droxy Droppings
This time the hackers are after women

Somebody hacked into SC's tax system and got millions of credit card #s and SSNs. So the govt is offering everyone one year of protection, but from what I understand, one year isn't really gonna help...

Yes, I know about South Carolina. The Lady Gov was calling for brutal punishment, which I am in favor of.

What the Feds need to do, but they won't, is audit the SSN database. Any duplicates using a number should be culled out and investigated. This would get rid of idenity theif issues. Hoawever it also busts 12 million illegal aliens, who are stealing the identity. Since the USA has decided not to enforce illegal immigration laws in favor of "soft amnesty", I don't expect the idenity theif issue to go away. So the identity theft problem is more than just bank and credit card theives. The SSN database doesn't tell the Feds who is what.

Frankly, it's an easy problem to solve through correlation and invovlement with state and local officals. Our government is essentially incompetent and riddled with red tape and I honestly think doesn't give damn.

I'd like to see SSN numbers not used for anything except taxes like they were intended.

That was changed. There used to be text on the bottom of cards, mine has it. But the unlawful to be used text has been removed.

So that ain't gonna happen. It's a lesson on provacy that was incrementally eroded, part by convienience, and total disregard for existing laws at the time.

The SSN is required for everything from military to a huge range of govt benefits both state and fed, tax, and medical. Id is required for almost everything, especially those things relating to money.

Egad! I have made a little paper "shield" for the Mac webcam in my computer.

Some people have got way too much time on their hands... Man alive.

Band aids work great too!

My web cams have bandaids over them since I can't disable the built ins.

So funny you should say that: my laptop came with a built-in webcam and the first thing I did was stick a Post-It note over the top of it, and it's been there ever since (3 yrs now). I hate those things, always think I'm being spied on.

It's interesting and pathetic that these pervs have to resort to extortion to a) make a living, b) get some sexual action, c) get a girl to talk to them. I feel for the victims, and the perpetrators' mothers. Thanks for the warning. I'm taping up my webcam now. ^ ^
