The Texas migration photos

admitting regret

They are not kidding calling the September holiday Labor Day, well Labor Day. I worked like a house elf all week.

I managed to take some photos. I wasn’t able to take many at Irish’s because we were just that darn busy or nackered.

So lets start with irishredlassand sabrebabe  rolling into Dallas. Here is the van trailoring the car.

They both stayed at my place until Tuesday, which is when we took off and the day the apartment was available.
So Irish took the opportunity to cook.

Weasley heard the word food.

Once we arrived, I vaccummed every shelf and cabinet, and started deep cleaning. Now, Irish was told this was professionally cleaned. I kept saying professional cleaning sometimes isn’t. However this place took it to a new low. Yay for Sabrebabe saying laundry soap strips grease. Yes it does. I spent a lot of time scraping grease ands scrubbing. I also spent a a bit of time using bleach on the tub surround, which is one of those old modular clip together things. I did a lot of dusting.

I also unpacked food, dishes, and all sorts of sundry and attempted to organize Irish’s kitchen. That’s a show of trust.
I think I managed to empty 15 boxes in one day.
I also repaired art, cleaned the glass, and polished the frames. I was tasked with hanging it. Normally art is a quick work, but the sets of art required some precision hanging. The pics you see now were the day before I left, and you can see it’s somewhat more assembled. You already heard about the carpet. I am not going into the details on the grease. Sadly I could not get to all upper areas because I simply ran out of time.

Poor Sabrebabe has a headache. But the furniture is pulled away for two reasons. 1- another vacuum and 2- so I can get back to the wall and mark where art goes and hang it..

Irish vaccumes after all the art is up!

The day I left I snapped this. Grumpy! Irish and Surfing Sabrebabe. But the point of this pic is this is how the living room area looked. You can see art on the walls.

This is me cleaning art.

This is drilling holes to fix a frame that lost it’s hanger. SO I put a wire assembly on it. Those frames are solid oak. I needed the drill.

The guest/craft room- This is a great space with a fantastic closet. It’s still not quite unpacked when I took this shot.

So many of my pics didn’t take. So no kitchen pics. I recall taking 3 photos there. Something is messed up. I’ve had this happen at con where the camera skips photos.
However, here is a photo of Irish in her guest bathroom, called the blue bathroom. There is art on the wall. LOL

Good to see that Irish is settling in with a little help from friends.

Now all she needs is a cat.

Cat is icing on the cake. =)

But Dexter was adopted, which is good.

The cat will find Irish. =)

I'm glad she had you two to help her. Moving is never any fun, but at least it looks like she's slowly getting settled in.

I'd say after the rug cleaning, she is on the home stretch. It will probably take her a few weeks to finish things.

Aw, look, there you all are! I like the art on the walls. My fave pics are irish and Sabrebabe with the computers and you with the picture frame. 8^) I'm so happy and excited Irish has such a happy new house close to you and so many people in Texas. So happy that it is such a happy home, and you guys helping set it up is like another house blessing that will start it off with bright happy memories! <3 Irish is so cute in the guest bathroom here.

What a lovely way to think of it. Despite poor Irish's trials with the condition, we did haul ass on it. Given most of the big jobs are done, she can putz her way through the rest of it. =)

I managed to install one curtain rod. Deb will do the remaining 3.

Yay pics! Yay getting so much done. Excellent.

Thank you, Droxy and Sabrebabe, for moving Irish and helping her settle in! She's going to be so happy living in Texas. You guys are true friends. And the bestest house-elves!

(glares at the manager who told her that the place "was professionally cleaned" - a refund is called for...)
11th-Sep-2012 07:06 pm (UTC)
The manager isnt the issue. The guy doing the non work was. irish tells me he got canned. They will make good on teh cost of cleaning the rug.

I hope she finds Texas to be a great place to live, and moving to Texas is a pay raise for her in terms of less taxes and lower expenses. She's in a very phenominal area for getting stuff quickly.

I'm so happy to see things coming together like this!

And I'm so happy that Irish has friends like you and Sabrebabe!

Regarding professional cleaners - this house was 'professionally cleaned' before we moved in - for which I paid half - and thought the bathrooms were fine, the kitchen was disgusting and the carpets ... Well, best not to go into that.
11th-Sep-2012 02:23 pm (UTC)
People are really disgusting slobs. I would swear the prior occupant (we suspect a male based on the hair) never vaccummmed. I would rather spend the time getting the place clean. I really do not trust "professional cleaners" unless everything is itemized and I see them do it.
11th-Sep-2012 09:24 am (UTC)
Gracious goodness! Y'all worked like house-elves to get so much done in so short a time! That apple and cherry fruit cobbler makes my mouth water.
11th-Sep-2012 07:06 pm (UTC)
Yes we did. Cobbler was tasty!
11th-Sep-2012 09:50 am (UTC)
Nice pics. :)

Yay for DIY Droxy. :)
11th-Sep-2012 07:08 pm (UTC)
LOL. We dont have pics of sabrebabe using the saw. I won't touch saws. I drill. She saws. LOL.

I can stand bleach, Sabrebabe cannot. So we just swapped jobs according to abilities and inclinations. However being tall, I put everything on upper shelves. LOL!!!

Thank goodness for good friends! I'm so glad Irish had you and Sabrebabe to help out. Moving is stressful, even if it's a move you want and were looking forward to. Thanks for the photos!
11th-Sep-2012 07:13 pm (UTC)
I think this move was stressful as it is a major change. However, I think Irish did very well with it. She was very well organized, that helps. Sabrebabe was probably more helpful than I was. I was brain dead and on autopilot most of the time. Irish also didnt have a huge massive amount of stuff either.

She's got a hobby lobby and a goodwill and a booze outlet of awesome nearby plus the choice of events in sanantonio or austin. It's a fantastic town. Plus there is a full blown theater supply store there but the hours are a bit wonky. I didn't manage to get to that. Just toom much things to get done, and the priority was getting Irish settled.

Settling in! Opa! So excited for Irish, and so great to see a lovely space full of great friends helping her put it together. :-)
11th-Sep-2012 01:11 pm (UTC)
Her apartment looks really awesome!
11th-Sep-2012 07:13 pm (UTC)
It's bigger than the one I had in Atlanta!
11th-Sep-2012 01:46 pm (UTC)
What a beautiful home and beautiful people :-)
11th-Sep-2012 01:48 pm (UTC)
quick work, you clever witches!
moving may be hell, but the unpacking and setting up part I am looking forward to.

You girls need any STUFF????
11th-Sep-2012 02:24 pm (UTC)
I really don't need stuff.
I need "specialty stuff". Got a spare busk lying around?

What I need is a time turner and a house elf.

11th-Sep-2012 03:16 pm (UTC)
How luck you were all together to get Irish settled in! That food looks absolutely amazing (*cue grumbling stomach*), too.
11th-Sep-2012 03:44 pm (UTC)
Universal Standard of True Friendship: help with a move. What an amazing team effort!

I like that laundry soap tip. I'm trying it today.

And, oh, that cobbler. Yum!
11th-Sep-2012 04:14 pm (UTC)
Laundry soap, liquid, straight up or slightly diluted. Simple green in various concentrations will replace 98% of all houshold cleaners. Dealing with that dust-grease buildup combo, you need very hot water. If its on a counter, you could try a paint scraper to remove crud...now I never let i get that bad, but I know of housekeepers that used that method..
